OTTO-WERNER MUELLER was born in Bensheim, Germany, and his mus- 
ical studies began at the Musisches Gymnasium in Frankfurt. At 
age nineteen, he was appointed Director of the Chamber Music 
Department for Radio Stuttgart, founding and conducting the re- 
nowned Radio Stuttgart Chamber Choir. He emigrated to Canada 
in 1951 and in Montreal worked for the CBC as conductor of opera, 
ballet, and symphony. He taught at the Montreal Conservatory 
and in 1965 conducted the Emmy Award winning CBC production of 
the Barber of Seville. He has been a guest professor at the 
Moscow State Conservatory and conducted the Moscow, Leningrad 
and Riga Symphony Orchestras. He is presently Conductor in 
Residence at Yale University, where he teaches conducting to a 
limited number of graduate students, is Musical Director of 

the Philharmonia Orchestra of Yale and the graduate orchestra 
of the Yale School of Music. Mr. Mueller continues to make 
guest appearances with major orchestras in the United States, 
Canada, and abroad. This is Mr. Mueller's third appearance 
with the University of Toronto Symphony Orchestra. 


DONALD SHORE is from Chevy Chase, Maryland, and recently won 
the Young Soloists Competition, sponsored by the National 
Symphony Orchestra, Washington, D.C. He is a student of 
Christopher Weait. 


MICHAEL BAKAN, DAVID BRADSHAW, MICHAEL COTE, MARK DUGGAN and 
TREVOR TURESKI are students of Russell Hartenberger, and plan 
to remain together as a percussion ensemble following grad- 
uation from the Faculty. 


TALIVALDIS KENINS was born in Latvia and began “his musical 
Studies at the Riga Conservatory, in piano and composition. . 
In 1945 he entered the Paris Conservatoire where he studied 
with Messiaen and Aubin, graduating in 1950 with a ‘Premier 
Prix', He emigrated to Canada in 1951 and became a member 
of the University of Toronto Faculty of Music in 1952. 

In 1971 and 1977 he received the Senior Music Award from the 
Canada Council. Professor Kenins is now one of Canada's 
most frequently commissioned composers. His compositions 
include seven symphonies, ten concertos, and a number of 
choral and chamber music works. This is his final year 

at the Faculty, and to commemorate his contributions and — 
retirement the U. of T. Symphony Orchestra is presenting 
the world premiere of his "Concerto for 5 Percussionists 

and Orchestra". |
